The floor remembers

2026. 15 min. Digital Film

While the city around it continually reinvents itself, a 40-year old roller rink in Kendall, Florida holds steadfast as a vital gathering place. Known over the years as Hot Wheels, Thunder Wheels, Super Wheels, and now Miami Roller Rink, the building has changed names and ownership, but its wooden floor remains a constant.

Each Monday night, skaters who first went there as kids in the ’80s and ’90s return. Beneath neon lights and the pulse of Miami Bass and Latin Freestyle, shuffle and jam skaters, speedsters, and newcomers alike move in distinct styles that, for a few hours, fall into rhythm together. What began as a teenage refuge has become something steadier: a place to belong.

Across the country, neighborhood rinks like this have quietly disappeared. This one prevails.

The Floor Remembers is a portrait of endurance, an exploration of the memories held in our physical spaces, and a story of survival in a city that rarely stands still.
